What to Expect from RDS
〰️
What to Expect from RDS 〰️
Before we set foot at The Royal Dublin Horse Show (RDS), we were told it was an experience like no other - one that could rival the world's largest equestrian event, Aachen. They were absolutely right.
RDS is a blend of tradition and top modern sport, where passionate horsemen and women gather to celebrate the animal and the sport in all its beauty. From the thrilling 5-star Rolex Grand Prix, to a breathtaking puissance, every moment is filled with adrenaline. The fun doesn’t stop there; the Pony/Five-Star Rider Relay adds an element of joy and camaraderie, while the hunter classes showcase the elegance of the sport in all its forms.
Throughout the week, Irish horses take centre stage. This unique aspect allows you to witness the essence of Irish horsemanship. Get ready to immerse yourself in a world where equestrian excellence meets the rich Irish heritage!
Where to stay

Where to stay 〰️
Let’s be clear: the RDS is not located in Dublin city center; it’s a bit out of the way. For this reason, we recommend staying close to the show. We chose a charming traditional hotel just a five-minute walk from the RDS, Morehampton Townhouse did not disappoint. It was clean and well-equipped, offering everything we needed. We especially enjoyed the delightful sweet treats they provided!
Another great option is the Sonder Earl Hotel, which is only 8 minutes away by car or taxi.
Keep in mind that finding accommodation in the area can be challenging, so don’t wait until the last minute to book. Hotels and rooms in Dublin tend to be expensive, especially during the show !

FOOD
〰️
FOOD 〰️
You could almost forget you’re at a horse show, the RDS feels like a culinary festival. There is an abundance of food trucks and dining options. From burgers and Asian cuisine to sandwiches, crepes, and sit-down dinners, there’s something to satisfy everyone, even the fussiest eaters.
A big shout-out to the grilled cheese stand (Olivia’s Favorite), which is always a hit! Personally, I can’t resist a good crepe. That said, the donut stands were always full, so we’ll definitely have to try those next year!

The RDS is one of the few shows that features a Best Dressed prize! Get ready to compete for a chance to win a €10,000 cash prize for the best look. This unique aspect adds a fun and traditional twist to the event, one that has been overlooked in modern competitions. After all, show jumping is also about elegance and style.
Bars / Going out

Bars / Going out 〰️
You’ll find bars at the show, which are always bustling! What would a show in Dublin be without a beer? The atmosphere is lively and crowded. We also recommend the Irish pubs around the show, Guinness fan or not it is fun! After the show day, the ‘Ice Bar’ at the hotel next to the show welcomes riders and public alike. For a touristy experience, don’t miss the Temple Bar area downtown, we promise it will be a memorable one!
