What to Expect from Aachen
〰️
What to Expect from Aachen 〰️
It’s not just us saying it—ask any equestrian who’s been, and they’ll tell you: CHIO Aachen is the mother of all shows.
It’s the Mecca of the sport, the pinnacle of equestrian excellence.
At Aachen, you don’t just get world-class show jumping—you get dressage, eventing, and driving at the highest level. This is where the best of the best come to compete, and if you ask any rider about their dream win, chances are they’ll say Aachen.
The atmosphere? Absolutely unmatched. Picture a massive stadium packed with true horsemen all there for one thing: the sport.
From the Nations Cup to Sunday’s legendary Grand Prix—one of the toughest in the world—you’re in for pure, unfiltered equestrianism. No fluff, no gimmicks. Just the best horses and riders in the game.
If you’re truly passionate about equestrianism, Aachen is something you have to experience at least once in your lifetime
Where to stay
〰️
Where to stay 〰️
If you’re heading to CHIO Aachen, book your accommodation early—seriously. Prices skyrocket, and the closer you are to the venue, the better your experience will be.
We stayed about 30 minutes away by car, which worked out fine, but if we could do it again? We’d definitely stay closer.
Another option, is to stay in Cologne or around the Dutch/Belgian border. Prices will be more affordable and you can find parking around the venue. But, leave the house early because when you’re 1km away from the venue, the traffic starts !
Pro tip: bring cash ! Most of the ‘unofficial’ parkings closer to the show only take cash. It’s usually around 20 euros but bring extra just in case.
Keep In Mind

Keep In Mind 〰️

The food section is massive, offering everything from classic hotdogs and crispy fries to pasta, crepes, and even Asian cuisine. But if you want a personal recommendation? Don’t skip the Flammkuchen. Thin, crispy, cheesy.
-
After a full day of world-class sport, you might need a drink to let it all sink in. Luckily, CHIO Aachen has a few great bars where you can sip on a fresh beer, a crisp Aperol Spritz, or even a glass of champagne.
Stick around after dark, and things can get pretty lively. If you’re in the mood, you might just find yourself dancing the night away.

Remember, this is Germany—even in the middle of July, don’t expect Madrid-level heat. Days can be warm, but evenings can get chilly, so bringing layers is a smart move.
And fashion-wise? This isn’t the place for flashy outfits. Aachen is all about tradition, class, and a deep respect for the sport. Keep it stylish but practical.
